WHY BRITNEY COULDN'T HACK IT
NY Post Page Six
September 11, 2007 -- Britney Spears has no one to blame but herself for her disastrous performance at the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night. The lip-synching pop tart showed up for her big comeback late, unprepared and with a drink in her hand.
On Saturday, the day before the VMAs, Spears was scheduled to arrive at rehearsal at around 1 p.m. Our spy said, "She didn't even get to Las Vegas until 4:30 p.m. It was ridiculous . . . The production people at MTV were freaking out . . . Nobody can tell Britney what to do anymore. No one can control her. She is a mess."
To make matters worse, when she arrived in Vegas, Spears didn't go straight to rehearsals.
"She went to her hotel room and ordered a bunch of food and some frozen margaritas," the spy said. "She came down, like, an hour later with a frozen margarita in her hand."

mtv has there shit together about as much as britney. To hire her to open the show was either an intentional publicity stunt or a fuck up beyond belief

SIMON COWELL: BRITNEY SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN THE BOOT
The Sun.UK
Mr. Nasty SIMON COWELL finds being brutally honest comes easily to him – in fact he’s made it his day job.
So when I asked him to critique BRITNEY SPEARS’ performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, I should have known the X Factor judge would give her both barrels.
Britney made possibly the worst comeback in history on Sunday night, performing her new track Gimme More.
She pranced around like a zombie in bra and pants in a performance which could have effectively ended her career as a pop singer.
Simon, who has made his fortune from guiding the careers of pop singers, says Britney would have been shown the door if her performance had been an audition for his ITV1 show.
“If I had been looking after Britney I’d have taken one look at her in rehearsals and I wouldn’t have allowed her on stage.
“It would have been worth pulling her off the bill — no matter what the cost — to save any chance she had of resurrecting her career.
“She wasn’t ready for that show in every possible way.
“The song wasn’t right, the image wasn’t right and she just wasn’t rehearsed.
“If she had turned up and given that performance at the X Factor auditions then I wouldn’t have put her through to the next round.
“The problem she has now is that she could have killed her career. It’s difficult to come back from that performance, for a while at least."
